Child Beauty Pageants.

So I was mentioning this to a few people after we watched Tough Guise together and wanted to share this quick little clip I'm using for a paper in another class....I really want to know what everyone thinks about it and how it applies to some of the things we have been talking about in class and presenting on oour mural...

  1. Oh my goodness. Ah sydnie you're a brave person for having such an academic focus on this subject this semester. This is some truly upsetting stuff, I really get worked up about these ertfyujhygtfrde parents!!!

I am deeply saddened that this little girl will never have a childhood.

Beyond all the gender feminist critiques, there is certainly a class-based perspective on this as well. The fact that someone could have so much money that they get plastic surgery for their 7 year old child, and that someone could have the luxery of even having a pro-plastic surgery stance is totally sickening.

I don't know when capitalism is going to crash down on itself, but when it does these womyn will be so unprepared...it's really really sad.

    love ya yo-yo-mama\

  2. The mother's insecurities projected on to her child. This child is desperately trying to bond with her shallow, appearance-obsessed egotistical mother who is obviously only enthusiastic about the kid's life because they are doing what she (the mother) is interested in doing. More so than a gender-tragedy, I think that this is just plain, old-fashioned, bad parenting.

  3. As a mother to an almost 4-year-old daughter, I was utterly sickened by this video. It's important that you shared this with us, Sydnie. Thank you. The corrupting forces that have made this mother so delusional and negligent MUST be mitigated. Ugh. -Jordana

  4. I completley agree with the statements you all have mentiond about this. It's horrible to watch videos like this--but it definitely serves to further remind ourselves about the brainwashing behind gender stereotypes and identities that are instilled upon us at a youg age by such a capitalist and consumer driven society.
